History
Melaleuca alternifolia is native to eastern Australia. Aboriginal communities have long held detailed knowledge of Australian native plants, including melaleuca species, within distinct cultural and customary practices. European settlers later applied the common name 'tea tree' to several Australian plants. Commercial distillation expanded during the twentieth century, and Tea Tree oil became widely used in personal-care and household products.
