About This Essential Oil

Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil is steam distilled from Origanum majorana. Its warm, rounded herbaceous aroma is used in diffuser blends, natural perfumery, soaps and carefully formulated massage and body products. It should not be confused with Spanish Marjoram, Thymus mastichina, or with Oregano oils, which have different compositions and safety considerations.

History

Sweet Marjoram has been cultivated around the Mediterranean since ancient times as a culinary and aromatic herb. Greek and Roman traditions associated marjoram with love, happiness and remembrance, and it appeared in ceremonial wreaths and domestic preparations. Today, the herb remains familiar in cooking, while its essential oil is valued in fragrance, aromatherapy and personal-care formulations.
