History

The name Lavender is often associated with the Latin lavare, meaning 'to wash', reflecting the plant's longstanding use in bathing, linen care and fragrance. Lavender has been cultivated across Europe for centuries and remains important in perfumery, cosmetics and household products. Lavandula angustifolia is commonly called true lavender; it should be distinguished from spike lavender and lavandin, which have different aromatic and chemical profiles.
