About This Essential Oil

Lavandin Essential Oil is distilled from Lavandula × intermedia, a naturally occurring and cultivated hybrid of True Lavender and Spike Lavender. The plant is larger and generally more productive than True Lavender, helping make its fresh, robust aroma popular in soaps, detergents, room fragrance, natural perfumery and carefully formulated body products. Cultivars differ in aroma and chemistry, particularly their linalool, linalyl acetate, camphor and 1,8-cineole content.

Key Benefits

• Provides a fresh and penetrating lavender aroma
• Popular in soaps, cleaning and household fragrance
• Adds a clean herbal note to diffuser blends
• Useful in carefully formulated massage and body products
• More robust and camphoraceous than True Lavender
• Blends readily with herbs, citrus, conifers and florals

History

Lavandin arose where True Lavender and Spike Lavender overlap and was later propagated commercially. Production expanded in France during the twentieth century because the vigorous plants yield more flowers and oil than True Lavender. Grosso, Super and Abrial are distinct cultivars. Lavandin is not equivalent to Lavandula angustifolia; its aroma, chemistry and safety considerations differ.
