About This Aromatic Extract

Natural Substitute Essential Oils

Some essential oils, such as jasmine, cannot be steam distilled because the delicate aromatic molecules are destroyed by heat or are present in extremely small quantities. Traditionally, these plants are extracted as absolutes using solvents.

Natural substitute essential oils are created by identifying the key aromatic compounds found in these plants and sourcing the same naturally occurring molecules from other botanical materials. Through naturally occurring organic chemistry, compounds such as benzyl acetate, linalool, benzyl alcohol, and indole may be isolated from other essential oils or plant extracts and blended to closely reproduce the aroma profile of jasmine.

Although these substitutes are derived entirely from natural plant sources, they are not true essential oils from the original plant. Instead, they are carefully formulated natural aromatic blends that provide a sustainable, ethical, and more affordable alternative while maintaining a fragrance that is remarkably similar to the original botanical.

Jasmine Absolute is a highly concentrated aromatic extract produced from delicate Jasminum grandiflorum flowers. Its complex fragrance combines rich white-floral sweetness with warm, green and softly indolic nuances. Prized in fine fragrance and natural perfumery, a very small amount can add depth, elegance and lasting floral character to a blend.

History

Jasmine has been cultivated and celebrated across South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean for centuries. The flowers have featured in garlands, personal adornment, perfumery and ceremonial traditions. Their fragrance is often strongest after sunset, inspiring poetic associations with the night. Modern Jasmine Absolute preserves much of the flower's complex aroma for use in fine fragrance and aromatic products.
