History
Clary Sage was historically called 'Clear Eye' because the mucilage surrounding its seeds was once used in traditional eye preparations. The plant has also been cultivated for its muscatel-like fragrance and used to scent wines, liqueurs and perfumes. Today, its essential oil remains an important aromatic material in fine fragrance, cosmetics and aromatherapy.
