History
Juniperus virginiana is native from southeastern Canada through the central and eastern United States to northeastern Mexico. Commonly called Eastern Red Cedar or Virginia Cedar, its fragrant, durable wood has long been used for storage chests, pencils and other crafted goods. The wood and its aroma also hold cultural significance in some Indigenous North American traditions. Today, the essential oil is widely used as a woody fragrance material in perfumery, soaps and aromatic blends.
