About This Resinoid
Benzoin is a resinoid rather than a steam-distilled essential oil. Produced from the aromatic resin of the Benzoin tree, it has a rich, sweet and balsamic fragrance with warm vanilla-like notes. Its thick consistency and excellent fixative qualities make it popular in natural perfumery, incense-inspired blends and carefully formulated body-care products.

History
Benzoin resin is collected after the bark of the tree is carefully cut and the aromatic material is allowed to exude and harden. The resin has a long history of use in incense, perfumery and ceremonial preparations. Solvent extraction produces the naturally thick, concentrated resinoid used in contemporary aromatic formulations.
