History

There are two explanations for the origin of Thyme's name. Some derive it from the Greek word 'thymon', meaning to fumigate, while others believe it comes from 'thymus', meaning courage. Throughout history, Thyme has been associated with strength and bravery.

Roman soldiers bathed in Thyme before battle, and during the Middle Ages it was woven into scarves given to knights departing for the Crusades. It was widely used during outbreaks of disease and was valued as a disinfectant during both the Crimean War and the First World War. The Egyptians also used Thyme in embalming because of its strong preservative properties.

Traditionally, Thyme has been used whenever warmth, strength, and vitality are lacking, particularly in relation to the lungs, digestive system, and immune function.
