History
Cloves have been traded for thousands of years and were known in China by at least the third century BCE. The dried buds became highly prized as a spice and fragrance material, shaping trade through Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean. Clove later became widely used in flavouring, perfumery and soaps. Its essential oils are produced separately from buds, leaves and stems.
