History
Also known as Lawn Chamomile, the Greeks called it 'ground apple' from the words kamai (on the ground) and melon (apple), from which the name Chamomile is derived. Chamomile has a long history of traditional use for stomach complaints, cramps, aches and pains, swelling, and nervous conditions.
Roman Chamomile is widely regarded as one of the safest essential oils for infants and young children, alongside Lavender. It is often described as a natural alternative for comfort and calming support. Unlike German Chamomile, Roman Chamomile is predominantly composed of aliphatic esters, giving it its characteristic gentle, soothing, and sedative qualities. While German Chamomile is generally considered stronger for inflammation, Roman Chamomile is often preferred for its more pleasant aroma and suitability for inhalation.
