About This Essential Oil
Frankincense (Black) Essential Oil is distilled from the dark aromatic resin of Boswellia neglecta, an accepted species native to parts of East Africa. Its distinctive aroma is deeper and smokier than many familiar frankincense oils, with woody, earthy and balsamic nuances. It adds weight and character to diffuser, perfumery, massage and body-care blends.
Key Benefits
• Provides a deep, smoky and resinous aroma
• Popular in meditation and contemplative blends
• Adds depth to natural perfumery compositions
• Complements carefully formulated skincare and massage products
• Blends readily with citrus, floral, woody and spice oils
• Creates a quiet and grounded aromatic atmosphere
History
Boswellia neglecta grows in dry shrubland across parts of East Africa. Unlike the pale resin produced by many frankincense species, its characteristic dark resin may form around naturally occurring damage, including channels made by wood-boring beetle larvae. Research indicates that some black-resin harvesting practices may be sustainable, but sustainability depends on the source, collection method and supply chain. Supplier traceability should therefore be confirmed rather than assumed.
