History

The Bergamot tree takes its name from the small town of Bergamo in Northern Italy, where the oil was originally sold. Historically it was used as a primary ingredient in Hungary Water, a traditional preparation valued for both beauty and wellbeing. Bergamot has also been used in Italian folk medicine for fevers and worms. Today it is best known as the flavouring used in Earl Grey tea and remains one of the most widely used oils in perfumery. Bergamot is often regarded as the strongest of the citrus oils and is valued for its uplifting qualities and ability to soften and balance blends.
